Dianette contain two active ingredients named as Cyproterone acetate & ethinylestradiol and collectively known as co-cyprinidiol. Cyprorerone acetate acts as anti-androgen. Androgen is a male hormone and also produced by women, responsible for stimulating the growth of skin especially the sebaceous gland that produces oil, hair that grows from skin, etc.

Cyproterone functions by blocking the receptor on which androgen works generally. In case, the body produces more androgen, the sebaceous gland might produce more sebum. This is turn leads to the blockage of the sebaceous gland that results in inflammation, infection and ache spots. Apart from this, the androgen might also causes excessive growth of hair on face & body that is commonly termed as hirsutism. These occur in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Cyproterone acetate is generally used for preventing the action of androgen. It also helps in decreasing the production of androgen by ovaries. The skin of the patients becomes less greasy within few weeks after using Dianette and it might take months for complete removal of ache or excessive hair growth.

Dianette is an effective combined oral contraceptive pill. Cyproterone acetate is a progesterone derivative and ethinylestrdiol is a synthetic version of female hormone, oestrogen. Dianette functions as contraceptive by prevention of ripening and release of eggs from ovaries. Also by increasing the thickness of the cervical mucus that makes it hard for the sperm to cross from vagina into the womb. In addition to this, Dianette changes the lining of the womb making the unfavourable condition for the fertilized egg for implantation.
