Retrovir or Zidovudine is a useful medicine that is used for the treatment of HIV and the avoidance of HIV spread from an infected mother to her unborn baby. Zidovudine is connected with the group of antiretroviral medications called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Retrovir is used without help or in mixture with supplementary drugs to treat the infection caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This medicine is not a cure for AIDS and it is also not used to stop it from being spread to others. It is only effective for reducing the enhancement in the disease. Zidovudine is also used to help prevent pregnant women who have HIV infection from passing the virus to their child during birth.
